Warmer, humid weather means up-dos (to deal with frizzy hair), loose layers (that one can easily wear a bathing suit under) and either a dress of some sort or denim shorts. The secret to wearing short dresses is yoga shorts, you can do anything without worrying you're flashing the world!

 



Sunday Series: Family Walk

Ok! so the craziness of the first month with a new baby has died down (for the most part) and we all seem to have settled in nicely. Don't get me wrong, Jay and I are still pretty sleep deprived over here but our bodies have adapted fairly quickly. I have occasional moments of absent-mindedness (like when I put the cheese in the cupboard instead of the fridge), but for the most part I'm managing on minimal sleep!

We're enjoying the nice weather over here, Ottawa seemed to skip spring and go strait to summer. We went out for our first official family walk this week, something we'll be doing lots of in the coming months. I think Tavi enjoyed it, though she fell asleep pretty much as soon as the stroller started moving! My favourite thing this time of year is all the flowers growing, everything looks so beautiful. I know dandelions are classified as weeds but I still think they're pretty! I look forward to the day when Tavi picks flowers on walks and gives them to her mama :)

Although she's not a mother yet, I know it's something that she looks forward to and I thought her guest post would be perfect on this special day***

my mom, sisters, and myself

I am not a mom, yet, but I hope to one day be. Family to me, is everything. I truly believe that families can be together forever and that a mother can make all the difference in the world- literally.

I have always loved children. My favorite jobs have been teaching dance and nannying. Then there are my nieces and nephew(s), they're my best friends. I seriously love them and would do anything for them. These jobs and friends/ family members are such great preparation for the future. I hope that they have given me qualities that will make me a great mom.

Being a mom is a huge responsibility, but not only that, it's fun! Kids are hilarious and are always my favorite people. Plus, I'm kind of a child myself. Disney, gold fish crackers, and fruit snacks are some of my favorite things. There's a reason kids and I get along so well. I'm so excited for my life to be about raising someone else, not just myself. haha!

Thank you, to all moms out there. You are going to mean the world to your children and influence them like nothing and no one else can or will.

one month

Well, it's been exactly one month since Tavi was born. Besides slacking on the blog (I swear eventually I'll get back to posting outfits and fashion related things) and wearing flats too often I've been enjoying my time off from work, spending my days with my little one rather than sitting in front of a computer. Instead of being GOGOGO all the time I'm living life at a more leisurely pace.

I'm really looking forward to my first post baby date night with Jay and having time to drink some of the craft beers sitting in our cupboards (and hallway closet, we seem to have quite the stockpile around here) but right now I'm happy spending my nights in a rocking chair humming Tavi to sleep.
 



sunday series/family life: a peaceful retreat

 

In general, when people find out you're having a girl they seem to go nuts over the colour pink. Pink is ok is small doses, very, very small doses, even for a little baby girl (hey, I'm not the only one who feels like this)! My family and friends were really great at not overdosing on the colour and instead of solid pink things they mixed it up with white and grey, which I really appreciated. The few pink items that Tavi has look really nice with her grey nursery furniture. Her room's not quite done yet but it still has a soft, calming feel to it. I love sitting in her grey chair just taking it all in.

Here are a few photos from earlier in the week, before Tavi and I hit the road to travel back to Kingston and Ganaoque for a visit home. I learned going anywhere with a kid means your trunk will be filled to the point of barely closing and it takes twice as long than you anticipated to pack! Jay's meeting up with us today and we'll be spending lots of time introducing our little one to our friends and family. While we're here we'll also be using Jay's Dad's workshop to sand down and refinish another dresser for Tavi's room.

Nostalgia

 

seems like being pregnant was so long ago!

 

I went for a check up this week at the hospital and was hit was a wave of nostalgia walking through the front doors. Was it really only a few weeks ago that I walked through these very same doors and travelled up to the obstetrics floor knowing it was almost time to meet my daughter? It's been less than a month yet it feels like it happened so long ago! Walking past the Second Cup on the first floor I can't believe it was only 3 weeks ago that my mom and I came down for coffee and a snack while Jay and a one day old Tavi napped in our room upstairs. How can it feel like both forever and still new at the same time?!
